A special and meaningful show, "Homecoming Treasures of Yuanmingyuan",
1
(take) place at Nantong Art Museum on March 7th, 2025. It showed some famous bronze animal heads—monkey, pig, ox, and tiger, etc. from Beijing's Old Summer Palace. They are the symbol of Chinese history, tradition and values. These sculptures were designed in the
2
(eighteen) century by an Italian artist for Emperor Qianlong.
Unluckily, the sculptures were taken away during the Second Opium War in 1860 and they were separated from our country for
3
(century). They stayed abroad for over 150 years. Thanks to efforts since 2003, including buying them back and donations, several of the Zodiac Heads have been returned to China, while some remain
4
(known).
Anyway, this event is seen as a big step in protecting the country's cultural history. The show
5
(catch) a lot of people's attention during May Day holiday. Lots of
6
(visit) came to the museum. "I feel proud
7
(see) them here. They belong to China," said Li Wei, a local middle school student.
Besides the show, there are talks on protecting cultural treasures and VR tours showing the Old Summer Palace online before it was
8
(complete) destroyed.
In recent years, China
9
(make) great efforts to recover these lost cultural treasures. By displaying them in museums, it not only
10
(spread) China's history and culture but also shows the importance of valuing our past.
