Once upon a time, there was a nice shoemaker (鞋匠). He worked very hard and was very honest. (1)
One day, he only had the leather enough to make one pair of shoes. At night, he cut his leather out but he was too tired and was asleep soon. (2)
The beautiful shoes were ready on the table. A shopper came in and paid a price higher than usual for the shoes. Then the shoemaker bought leather enough to make two more pairs with the money. In the evening, he cut out the work and went to bed early. When he got up in the morning, the shoes were ready again. (3)
It went on for some time and he became rich.
One evening, he and his wife decided to find out who helped them. They left a light on and hid themselves behind the door. (4)
As soon as it was midnight, two dwarfs (小矮人) came in without wearing clothes. They sat themselves on the shoemaker’s chair and picked up the leather and made the shoes. (5)
They made each of them some clothes and a little pair of shoes to keep warm. When the dwarfs saw the clothes, they dressed themselves and danced. The shoemaker and his wife didn’t see them any more, but everything went well from that time on.
