With the development of China, there is more need for learning Chinese. So many learners of Chinese start to use online apps. There are many online apps such as Wukong Class, Du Chinese, HelloChinese, Duolingo and Chineasy: Learn Chinese Easily.
Today, Duolingo offers new courses for people learning Chinese. Learners can learn more about Chinese culture such as the Spring Festival and Peking Opera. There is also cultural learning about daily life.
Sixteen-year-old Isabelle comes from a French Chinese family. She lived in China from 3 to 7 before moving to the US. Three years ago, she started learning Chinese again, and found that it was fun.
Every day, she spends about five minutes practising on the language-learning app Duolingo. With her teacher from Shanghai on screen, she reads and practises conversations. "I think Chinese will be really useful. My grandma and other family members speak it, so I hope to talk with them in Chinese," she says.
Ken, a British man, uses Duolingo to improve his Chinese twice a week. He hopes that when he visits his wife's hometown of Chongqing next time, he can communicate with her family members in Chinese.
For now, he doesn't find listening or speaking too hard. "For me, reading is the most difficult part because many of the Chinese characters have two or three pronunciations, so I often make mistakes."
