One day, Simon and his mother decided to visit the new mall that had just opened a
across
the street. Simon asked if he could get a new pair of sports shoes. His mother smiled and agreed, but also mentioned another
need
— they had to buy a new computer. Simon thought that would be very
expensive
and cost a lot of money.
His mother told him not to worry. She explained that she and Simon’s father carefully
managed
the family’s money. Every year, they made a budget to plan how to use it wisely. She said that saving money does
matter
for the future.
Simon asked
what
kinds of things were in it. His mother said the most important need was Simon’s education. After that, they
paid
for their flat, their car, food, and all daily things. Together, these costs covered about 50 per cent of their budget.
Then Simon asked about the other half. His mother explained that they
used
about 30 per cent for special things, like colourful holidays or fun trips. Another part—20 per cent—went into their bank
account
. She said it was important to save for a rainy day, to protect the family if something unexpected happened.
Simon was happy to learn this. He realized that good planning helps
cover
what a family needs. Then, he and his mother went to the mall, ready to enjoy their shopping trip together.
