Recently, China introduced a new mascot(吉祥物) for the 2026 “Happy Chinese New Year” events. The mascot is called “Lucky Horse”. It is designed to show the energy and spirit of Chinese people.
The idea for “Lucky Horse” comes from an old metal horse statue called “Horse Treading on a Flying Swallow”. This famous statue was found in Gansu Province. It is known for its beautiful shape and strong sense of movement. The horse’s “hair” in the mascot also looks like the mane(鬃毛) of the special horses from the Tang Dynasty, which were famous for being tall and strong.
The design team looked at many kinds of horses before making their final choice. They chose the Zhada three-toed horse as the model. This kind of horse lived on the Qinghai-Xizang Plateau(青藏高原)a long time ago. It is famous for living in the high mountains and being able to run very fast. The team wanted the mascot to show strength and energy.
The mascot is mainly red, a lucky colour in China. It also has classic shapes like clouds and flowers. These designs show the joy and warmth of the Chinese New Year.
There will be many products of “Lucky Horse”, such as toys, blind boxes, red envelopes, and lanterns. They will be used in events around the world to share Chinese culture with more people.
The “Happy Chinese New Year” programme started in 2001. Since 2023, it has used animal mascots based on the Chinese animal signs to share joy with people in different countries.
