Grace’s room
“Grace, clean your room. You cannot go anywhere or do anything fun before you finish,” Grace’s dad said.
Grace put the dirty clothes in the basket. She put the books on her shelves. One book was about origami. Origami is the art of folding paper to make animals and other things. She got it as a present with some origami paper, but she never used any of the paper.
And oh! That beautiful kite was on her desk. Her parents gave it to her when she was little. She smiled when she thought of the time when she played with the kite. She looked around the room to find a place to put it. Then she had an idea. She put the kite on the wall.
Next, she went to the bookshelf and got the book about paper folding with the special paper. She looked up the directions in the book and started to make a bird. With a few careful folds, Grace soon had a fine blue bird. She thought it would look cute hanging from her ceiling.
Grace took out some more paper and made some more birds. She hung up five of them in different colours. She smiled as the birds danced. Her father knocked on her door.
“Dad, come in and see my room,” Grace said.
“Your room looks so tidy!” Dad said. “Where did all the things go? The room looks great!”
As he looked around, he saw the birds hanging from the ceiling. “Hey! I really like the birds. Will you make a bird for me?” he said.
“I have a better idea. Come and sit by me,” Grace said, handing her dad a piece of paper. “The first step is to take a piece of paper and fold it in half...”
