Jonah had to make the dessert for tonight's dinner. His parents were busy, so they had left the job to him. Unluckily, he had never baked before. His mother had left all the ingredients and cooking tools out on the kitchen table, along with a note that said, “Follow the recipe!”
How hard could it be? He looked at the instructions on the back of the can of pumpkin pie filling. He preheated(预热) the oven for 15 minutes and then began with the pie.
First, he got the pie crust(糕饼酥皮) out of the fridge. Then, he got an opener and opened the pumpkin pie filling can. He poured the filling into a bowl and started to stir it with milk and two eggs. Next, he poured the mixture(混合物) into the crust, but there was a little more. Then he set it aside. He wasn't sure what to do with it, and the instructions had been followed exactly, so he wasn't sure why there was any extra.
When the oven was ready, he put the pie in. After 50 minutes, he opened the oven and stuck a toothpick into the mixture. It came out a bit wet and gummy(黏的), so he heated for five more minutes. This time, the toothpick came out clean. The pie was done.
He took the pie out of the oven and felt pretty good about himself. It smelled great and everything turned out perfect.
Suddenly, he had a new idea. He pulled out all the cookbooks and looked for the recipe. He found one that could be made with the leftover pumpkin pie filling. It didn't seem hard. All he had to do was follow the recipe!
