I stood there at the starting line, heart beating fast. I was about to take part in a three-kilometre run. The past four weeks of valuable
1
had led to this exciting moment. The moment when my
2
could run across the school. The moment when I could listen to my classmates and chant. I was
3
. I could feel the adrenaline(肾上腺激素)build up inside me.
“On your marks, get set, GO!” Mrs Ashley’s
4
broke the silence. I was off with a stream of Grade 8 girls.
Soon I reached the top of the small hill in the school and then returned towards the basketball court where I
5
. A strong wind blew my hair out of my face as I ran down the hill. When I set foot on the basketball court again, my teacher, Casey, marked my wristband(腕套)to show that I had
6
my first lap(一圈). “First lap done! Great job!” she cheered, pointing at my bright red T-shirt that I was wearing to stand for my
7
. The proud feeling filled me up and I kept on running.
By the second lap, the cheers grew weaker as I ran past the playground. When I
8
nearer to the cricket nets(板球网), I knew that I was getting closer to my last lap. The
9
of my teachers and friends came into my ears. I felt supported and began to run more
10
.
I was nearly there but my legs suddenly tightened(绷紧). My breath became short. My
11
was beating so fast that it would fly out of my chest.
12
I couldn’t stop. I couldn’t stop now. I knew I was so
13
. These words played over and over inside my head like my favourite song—Just keep going.
It wasn’t long until I was
14
there. Several minutes later, I set foot across the finish line, hearing my friends cheer. I had
15
it. I had finished a three-kilometre run and now it was over. I felt proud and relaxed.
