Eddy wants to play soccer. “I have no boots(靴子),” he says. “You have these boots”, says his mum. “But they are old boots,” says Eddy.
Eddy goes to school with his old boots. The other kids all have new boots. They are running around in their new boots. “Come on, Eddy!” they shout. “Put your boots on.”
Eddy puts his boots on. “Your boots look old”, says a kid. “Can you run in them?” Eddy runs after the ball and a boot comes off. The kids laugh, but Eddy doesn't.
When he goes home, Eddy says, “I’m not playing soccer.” He puts his boots in the rubbish bin. But Eddy’s father Pop says, “Get your boots, Eddy. Come with me.” Pop and Eddy go outside. Pop paints the boots black with red flames. “No one has boots like this”, says Eddy. “They are so cool!” Pop sits down with Eddy. “You have cool boots now,” he says. “No other kid has boots like this.” “But it’s not the boots on the boy”, says Pop. “It’s the boy in the boots!”
The next day at school Eddy puts on his boots and kicks(踢) the ball. “Wow!” says a kid. “Cool boots!” And Eddy says happily and proudly(自豪), “It’s not the boots. It’s the boy in the boots!”
