This term, I faced a tough choice between the popular basketball team and the school’s Drama Club. All my good friends played basketball, and they teased (嘲笑) me about “wasting time on acting”. So I gave in, even though I’d loved performing since childhood—reciting lines, expressing emotions, and working with a group to tell stories.
Basketball practice was terrible. I’m not a born athlete. I missed passes, tripped over my own feet, and felt like an outsider. Every evening, I’d come home, feeling tired and sad. I was dying to (渴望) practise for the Drama Club’s upcoming play. One weekend, I watched the club’s practice video online. Seeing other club members laughing and performing, I realized I was pretending (假装) to be someone I’m not—just in order to fit in.
