Tu Youyou: A Great Scientist
Tu Youyou is a great Chinese scientist. She was born on 30th December, 1930, in Ningbo. When she was young, she wanted to be a doctor and help sick people. Tu Youyou worked very hard. She studied medicine for many years. In 1969, she began to look for a new medicine to help people with malaria(疟疾). It was very difficult, but she never gave up. She read many old Chinese medicine books and tried hundreds of times.
Finally, in 1972, she found artemisinin(青蒿素). It helped millions of people all over the world. In 2015, she won the Nobel Prize in Medicine. She was the first Chinese woman to win this great prize.
Tu Youyou is now over ninety years old, but she still cares about science. She is a true heroine for all of us.
