The traditional Chinese lunar calendar divides a year into 24 solar terms(节气). Start of Summer, or Lixia usually falls on 5 May or 6 May every year.

On the day of Start of Summer, many parts of China have the tradition of tasting fresh vegetables and fruit. There are many types of foods, such as cherries, green plums, green wheat and so on.
