In the summer of 2024, Daniel Newham from the UK and Cleo Luden from France travelled across China. Their journey was recorded in the
China’s Culture Journey(《文运中国》). It shows the world the rich culture and modern life of China
the eyes of these two explorers(探索者).
The two explorers' journey
over 20,000 kilometres and they visited 16 famous landmarks(地标) across China. Along the way, they discovered the
value of Chinese culture.
Newham, 46, has lived in China for over 26 years.
he knows China very well, the journey was still a big surprise to him. He
the Green Cloud Corridor(翠云廊) in Sichuan, which is a 151-kilometre ancient road with thousands of old trees. “It’s
to walk among the trees. I know that some great poets like Du Fu and Li Bai walked on the same path and enjoyed the same
thousands of years ago,” he said. As he walked, he thought, “
can I feel the same emotions(情绪) as those ancient poets did when they were here?” He closed his eyes, listened to the sound of the wind, and
the world as it was years ago.
The other explorer Luden began learning Chinese at the age of 10. During the journey, she saw many things that she couldn't learn from books. She was deeply
by Dunhuang, Gansu. “I’m really interested in the pictures on the wall,
the female characters are amazing,” she said.
Both Newham and Luden hope their experiences can
more people to visit China. “You don’t need to be afraid of
. If you have any trouble, somebody will help you. If you are
about the language barrier(障碍), Chinese people always find a way to help,” Luden said.
