Long ago, there was a king named Midas. He loved gold more than anything else in the world. He had a beautiful garden full of colourful flowers and a lovely daughter. He had a lot of gold, but he always wanted more.

One day, a young man met King Midas in the garden and said, “I’ll give you the Golden Touch (点金术). From tomorrow morning, everything you touch will turn into gold.”

The next day, Midas woke up and touched his bed. It turned into gold. He touched his clothes, and they became gold too. He touched a flower. It was also gold. He was very happy.

When Midas tried to eat and drink, the food and water became gold. He could not eat or drink anything. He was sad and worried.

Then his daughter ran to him. He hugged (拥抱) her, and she turned into a gold statue. Midas was very sad. He cried sadly.

Midas prayed (祈求) to lose the Golden Touch. The young man appeared. He told him to wash his hands in the river. After he did so, his daughter came back to life, and all the other things came back to normal too.

From then on, Midas was never greedy (贪婪的) again. He learned that gold could not bring true happiness. He understood that his family and simple joys in life are the most important.
