Recently, our school carried out a survey on student sleep habits, and the results are worrying. According to health experts, junior high school students should get at least 9 hours of sleep a night. However, only 49 of our 989 students get that much sleep. Many students—445—get 7 to 8 hours. Of the rest of the students, 148 get 8 to 9 hours, 247 get 6 to 7 hours, and 100 get less than 6 hours. Most students are not in bed by 10 p.m., as experts recommend, and many are getting up much earlier than they need to.
There are many reasons for a lack of sleep, but the biggest one is study stress. Fully 45% of the students are too worried about marks to sleep well at night. A good 35% of the students lose sleep because they are too busy using electronic devices, and 10% get up early for school activities. Another 10% have trouble sleeping because of a noisy or crowded environment.
We want you to do well at school and take an active part in school activities, but we also want you to get better sleep at night. Try to balance your studies and activities, and keep a regular sleep schedule. You should also cut back on the use of electronic devices before bed. Reading a good book or listening to soft music often helps reduce stress so you can sleep better. Enough sleep will help you think more clearly, give you more energy, and lead to better school performance. Please try to get enough sleep at night.
