A Read Tim’s letter to Ask Ava and complete the summary.
Dear Ava,
My name is Tim, and I’m 14 years old. I’m writing to ask for your advice. I often feel tired. My schoolwork is suffering, and I don’t have enough energy to do the things I want to do.
At school, I find it hard to focus. When I get home, all I want to do is rest. Basketball is my favourite sport, and watching basketball videos helps me relax after a long day. However, because of this habit, it takes longer than it should to complete my homework. My mum keeps telling me I should stop doing this and finish my homework as soon as I get home, so I can go to bed earlier. But the problem is that going to bed earlier doesn’t always mean I can fall asleep. When it’s finally time to go to sleep, my mind just won’t shut down. I want to sleep, but I can’t. The next day, I feel even worse. This has been going on for weeks.
I also have basketball practice on Wednesdays. I’m not the best player on the team, but I really enjoy it. The practice finishes late, so I end up going to bed very late. Because of this, I always feel worse than usual on Thursday mornings. I feel so stressed that I have been thinking about giving up playing basketball.
Can you help me, Ava? I’m worried about my schoolwork, and I don’t want to give up basketball, but something has to change. I can’t carry on feeling like this every day.
Yours sincerely,
Tim
