As we all know, finishing a marathon takes great courage and hard work. Tobias Weller, a nine-year-old boy, managed to finish one. What makes it especially inspiring is that he has cerebral palsy (脑瘫).
The disease affects Tobias's ability to move. 1. In 2019, he learned about Captain Tom Moore, a war veteran. Moore raised millions for Britain's health service by walking laps in his garden before turning 100. Tobias decided to take on a marathon. Soon he started his challenge on the street outside his Sheffield home.
2. Little by little, he walked better. By the end of the challenge, he could walk up to 750 metres a day. On June 30, 2020, the 70th day of his challenge, the boy finished the 42-kilometre race.
"I can't believe I completed a marathon! It's just awesome!" Tobias said after he finished the special marathon. 3.
Tobias raised over 81,600 pounds for Sheffield Children's Hospital. The hospital helps children and adults with neurological conditions (神经疾病), like Tobias himself.
Tobias is now using a tricycle (三轮车) to walk a second marathon. He said, "4. You just have to try your best and push yourself as hard as you can—but above all, enjoy yourself."
