Do you know about storm photographers?
They get close to storms to take photos, and have been called "storm chasers".
Liu Yijing is such a person. Few people in China enjoy storms more than him. Other people may close their windows to block out sounds of the storm. Liu, however, jumps excitedly for each and every storm. More than that, he will then drive into the heart of them.
Liu Yijing was born and raised in Jiangxi Province. He has been keen on weather since childhood. While he was in primary school, his favourite TV programme was the weather forecast.
Since 2020, chasing storms has become part of Liu's life. He has travelled about 40, 000 kilometres across China. He takes photos of storms and shares them online.
The young man has become more and more popular. He has been invited to give lectures at universities. CCTV has even begun to use his works. In 2022, one of his photos was chosen as the cover for *Advances in Atmospheric Sciences*(《大气科学进展》).
As the first storm-chasing photographer, Liu is quite young and exceptional (非凡的). However, there are other things that make him even more special.
One day, Liu came across a farmer and was deeply touched by his words. The man told him that a storm had damaged his harvest. He realized that the things he loved could also bring disasters to others. So, he decided to start making short videos about extreme weather to help people better understand nature.
Nowadays, hundreds of thousands of people are learning about meteorology (气象学) from him on short-video platforms. "I hope my efforts can help people better understand nature," said the storm chaser.
