一、阅读理解
Long ago in the Spanish city of Málaga, there was a little boy named Pablo Picasso. He had fluffy (毛茸茸的) black hair and a pair of eyes full of curiosity.
From a young age, Pablo loved to paint and his canvases (画布) were always filled with bright colours and different patterns. His father was an art teacher who taught Pablo how to capture (捕捉) the beauty of the world with his paintbrushes. However, Pablo’s paintings were different. He didn’t like to paint things as they were, but preferred to express them with the colours and shapes he imagined in his mind.
As time passed, Pablo grew up and decided to move to Paris, a place many artists dreamt of. In Paris, he saw many beautiful artworks, but he wanted to create his own style. He tried different ways of painting. Sometimes his paintings looked strange, with twisted faces and bodies, but that was exactly what he wanted to show. Pablo wanted people to see the inner beauty of things, not just their outward appearance (外表).
One day, Pablo painted a picture, in which the animals and people were made up of different shapes and colours, looking very unusual. He hung this painting in the town square to see how people would react. People in the town were amazed because they had never seen such a painting before. Some found it funny, while others found it hard to understand. However, a little boy ran up to Pablo and said, “Sir, your painting showed me a whole new world. It’s magical!”
The boy’s words greatly encouraged Pablo. From then on, he was even more committed (坚定的) to his style, continuing to create more wonderful works with his paintbrushes. He helped develop a new way of painting called “Cubism (立体主义)”, together with Georges Braque. He painted many great pictures throughout his life.
Pablo Picasso was not only a painter but also a sculptor, ceramicist (陶瓷家) and stage designer. His works are always full of imagination and creativity. His story tells us not to be afraid of being different but to bravely pursue our dreams.
