二、阅读理解
The marathon has become a new favourite activity in many Chinese cities. Thousands of people take part in these events, including foreign friends like me. Every year, cities try their best to make their marathons more wonderful.
On 26 October 2025, I took part in the Chengdu Marathon, running with 35,000 other people. The route (路线) passed many famous places in Chengdu. We could see local people shouting “Come on!” by the road. At many stops, artists sang, danced and played music to cheer us up. These not only encouraged runners, but also showed how much people in Chengdu supported the marathon.
For someone like me who’s not a professional (职业的) athlete, finishing 42.195 kilometres is really not easy. I joined the race mainly to challenge myself. So I ran at a steady pace (以稳定的速度), enjoying the things around me—listening to the cheers, music and special performances.
There were all kinds of interesting runners. There was a 75-year-old man who was running his 100th marathon. Elderly ladies with white hair were enjoying the race without any stress. When I started feeling tired and my legs hurt a little, they encouraged me not to give up. These experiences made me feel the warmth of people at the event. It was more than a race about winning or losing.
The closer I got to the finishing line, the more energetic I felt. My body was in pain, but my heart was shouting: “Hey! You’re going to finish soon.” All I could see in front of me was the beautiful finisher’s medal. Finally, when I crossed the finishing line, all the pain and hardship went away. Though a little tired, I was filled with joy and pride.
As an international student, my life is always full of new and interesting experiences—and running a marathon has become part of that. Running with tens of thousands of people and being supported by so many people helped me better understand Chinese people and their society. It’s the support of Chinese people that makes such events great and unforgettable.
