三、阅读理解
Beijing opera, a traditional Chinese art form with a history of over 200 years, is known for its colourful costumes, unique facial paintings and beautiful singing. In the past 20 years, more artists have been trying to blend (融合) it with Western opera.
One famous example is the work The Legend of the White Snake in 2013. Unlike the traditional Beijing opera version, the new production added the orchestral (管弦乐队的) music and chorus (合唱) of Western opera. The lead singer, a young Beijing opera artist, combined the clear, high-pitched voice of Beijing opera with the emotional expression of Western opera. The stage design also mixed Chinese elements, like red lanterns and bamboo screens, with Western lighting technology, making the performance more vivid.
Another successful blend is Turandot (《图兰朵》), a classic Western opera. A Chinese creative team added Beijing opera’s kung fu and acrobatic (杂技的) moves to the show. When the opera was performed in Italy in 2019, the audience was shocked by the combination of Western music and Chinese physical skills. Many viewers said they felt a new connection between Eastern and Western cultures.
This cross-cultural exchange not only enriches art forms, but also helps people around the world understand each other better.
