四、阅读理解
Dear Alex,
How have you been lately? I've got a bit of awkward (尴尬的) trouble and I really want to ask you for advice.
I'm going through puberty (青春期) now, and my voice keeps cracking (破音) out of nowhere. One minute I talk normally, but the next it suddenly turns sharp or deep. It's so uncomfortable. What's worse, some classmates love laughing at my voice breaks and even copy me on purpose. Now I dare not speak much in class, and I feel really down.
Could you tell me how you got through that awkward time? I really need your help.
Yours,
Daniel
Dear Daniel,
I totally get how you feel—I've been there, done that.
Don't beat yourself up over this. Every boy has voice cracks in puberty; it's just part of growing up, nothing to be ashamed of.
To be honest, my voice was a total mess back then, cracking like a broken speaker. My classmates laughed at me too. At first, I felt so awkward that I wanted to hide away. But I soon realized: Those guys just fool around for fun, and they don't mean any harm.
I found a simple way—laugh it off. Whenever my voice cracked, I'd put it that my voice was just "leveling up". Once you don't make a big deal out of it, others will soon get bored and stop teasing (取笑) you. After all, people only pick on those who get shy easily.
Just remember, this too shall pass. It won't last forever. Don't let their silly words
get under your skin. Be yourself, act normal, and it'll be over before you know it.
Cheer up! You'll be fine soon.
Yours,
Alex
