四、阅读短文,回答问题
April 2nd is World Autism Day. This day reminds us to care about people who have autism, especially children.
What is autism? It's a developmental disorder of the brain(脑)that influences a person's ability to communicate with others. Here are the main behaviour characteristics of autism.
• Social communication disorder, living only in their own world.
• Language communication disorder, difficult to communicate with people around.
• Repeat strange movements often, unable to accept the changes of familiar(熟悉的)environment.
From the three characteristics above, people with autism have lots of trouble communicating. They look like normal people, but they experience the world in a very different way. That is to say, the way they deal with things and understand the world is not the same as normal people.
However, there are some unusual facts about autism. First, most of us think people with autism don't want to communicate with others. In fact, they want to make friends with others but find it so difficult. Second, autism is thought to be the result of bad parents. It's wrong. It's the brain that develops differently when the baby was born. At last, we think that with the growth of the children, autism can be cured. That's not true. Even though they have grown up, the illness is still with them.
Over the past years, the number of the people with autism has been on the rise. It's high time that we should care about the people with autism. And as a teenager, we can volunteer our free time to help them. Singing songs, drawing pictures and playing games with them are all great ways. Are you ready to volunteer?
